Very hard working B. James has been operating a produce sales business from Rwemiyaga, Ntungamo for a period of eight years. With nostalgia, this happily married father of two school-going children recalls how his business basked in high profit returns at its onset. Times have changed, however, as the business now earns only 200,000 Ugandan shillings in sharp contrast to the previous earnings.

People in western Uganda, despite laboring in such tough circumstances, always find a way of educating their children. James is no exception. He now looks forward to the prospect of enhancing his business by buying fertilizer and mulches for his plantation. He has other income-generating activities like coffee sales, firewood sales and timber. With this loan, he will increase his income and become better able to support his family.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
