Nargiz's story

A. Hargiz is 57-years old, married and the mother of nine children. She is a refugee from the Azerbaijan- Armenian conflict territory in the Lachin region, situated in the West of Azerbaijan Republic in the Caucasus region. Right now she lives in Sumqayit city. She is a low-income person who is very vulnerable to shifts in the local economy. Nargiz has a small flock of sheep. She buys lambs and raises them for sale 6 months later. She sells the sheep in the local market, buys other lambs, and spends the rest of her profits on the necessities of life for her family. The business is very interesting but sometimes demands more funding than she has available. Her husband helps her in this work. In 2004 Hargiz borrowed $500 from Normicro and expanded her business. She would like to receive $1,000 loan in order to acquire 5 small sheep and feed for them. She will repay the loan within 12 months. She eventually hopes to expand this business. She hopes that this will further improve the living condition of her family.
