Consuelo's story

Consuelo was born in the city of Urubamba which is about an hour and ten minutes from Cusco. Consuelo currently lives there with her two children. She serves as both mother and father to her children since her partner left her for another woman.

Determined to get on with her life, in 1993, she opened a restaurant selling lunches. Today she sells food from a store in her home. You can find her there 7 days a week from 5 am to 10 pm or until she runs out of bread.

She has been doing this for several years and it has gone well thanks to her effort. Consuelo hopes to borrow 1500 nuevos soles as part of her new loan. She would like to use the loan to buy more goods such as rice, sugar and others.

The Señor de Torrechayoc community bank was founded in 1994 with Consuelo as one of the founding members which has been very good for her. The partners named the community bank Señor de Torrechayoc in honor of the city of Urubamba's patron since they are all religious.
