A loan helped a member to buy an industrial stove for her business making and selling pizza.

Las Bugambilias Group's story

Astrid is a married, 46-year-old woman. She is the mother of three children between the ages of 9 and 24. Two of them are studying in the university. Her youngest child is still in school while the other two study at the university and have their own jobs.

Working with her husband, Astrid has two businesses. She makes and sells pizza, and has a small bird farm. She has a locale in her community and employs two people to make home deliveries. She seeks a Kiva loan to buy an industrial oven.

It will be an emotional moment when the women of Puente de Amistad receive their third Kiva loan. There is a whole world of possibilities open to them, and they can visualize how to make their dreams a reality.

This is the case of the seven women who have formed the Las Bugambilias communal bank. They live in the department of Quiché. The women have businesses that include preparing and selling pizza and delicious appetizers. Others sell personal use products through catalogs, and rent locales.

The "Plus" of the Microcrédito Plus program includes the monthly educational trainings provided to these women. Due to the fact that the majority of them have little or no formal education, they are anxious to learn how to better administer their businesses, as well as care for their families and themselves. A facilitator of the institution uses games and diagrams to share the inforamtion.

Thank you, Kiva lender, for believing in Astrid and her friends.
