A loan helped my business be able to purchase a convection oven that is essential to its success.

Jazmin's story

I grew up in Mexico with my hands dusted in flour. My family has owned a bakery in Toluca, near Mexico City, for more than 40 years. At age 10, I was helping to make traditional sweetbreads, learning from my parents the fine art of turning flour, sugar, yeast, and butter into a buttery, sugary treats. By 15, I was selling and delivering for Marcelino Pan y Vino. Baking has been my passion my whole life, and I enjoy sharing that passion through my business in Pittsburgh.

Given the small size of the local Latino community in our area — it accounts for just 2.1% of the population in Allegheny County — no one blame you if don’t know the pleasure of biting into a freshly baked Mexican pastry. My husband and I hope to change that. While our ultimate goal is a brick-and-mortar bakery, Panaderia Jazmin is still very much in phase one. Meanwhile, we are content to bake on weekends in our rented commercial kitchen until we can build up the capital to purchase our own equipment.

This loan is special because:

It supports this passionate entrepreneur to expand their business.
