A loan of $700 helped a member plowing costs, small farming equipment, and fertilizers.

Benkadi Iii Group's story

The seven members of the Benkadi III group are married women with an average age of 40 years and an average of four children. Most of them live in polygamous families in Wobougou, a village in the Dioïla prefecture in the Koulikoro region (2nd administrative region of Mali). They are working with the microfinance organization Soro Yiriwaso with the goal of better organizing their activities in the beginning of the rainy season. Their crops are rice, pearl millet, peanuts, and beans. They are on their second loan, and the previous loan was repaid in full.

With this new loan, Maïmouna F. plans to buy fertilizers and small farming equipment and to pay for labor costs to maintain about 1 hectare of peanuts and beans. Their crops are sold in the city of Dioïla and in Massigui after harvest to a clientele of both men and women. They expect to make an average profit of about 40,000FCFA per planting season.
