A loan helped provide a great education to kids in a low income environment.

Tonya's story

While attending college, I started my love for teaching as a substitute teacher in my local community. I finished my Associate degree in Accounting at MS Gulf Coast Community College, then started the bachelor program for Education & Psychology.

Teaching is my life partner. I have gained my experience of learning how to educate young children over the last 15 years, which can be contributed to various courses of child psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and Ashford University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood.

As I continued to fuel and grow my love for education, I began working as a Pre-K 4 Head Start teacher at AVANCE Houston. While employed with AVANCE, I adapted the Texas School Readiness into my classroom. This program helped me to open up the minds of young children and influence their ability to express writing, math, and phonological awareness.

My pursuit for teaching all ages transitioned from Pre-K 4 to teaching 6th-grade ELA & Reading for Houston ISD. While teaching in Houston ISD, I collaborated and transferred my skills to ensure students were able to be STAAR ready.
