A loan of $675 helped to purchase weed-killers such as Gramoxome.

Fuatino's story

Fuatino T. P. is 36 and married with five children (ages 1 - 14). She owns a business planting & harvesting taro for sale. Fuatino has three years of experience in this business. Fuatino needs a loan of WST $1,700 to purchase weed-killers such as Gramoxome. She plans to use the earnings from her business (estimated to be 450 talas or US $188 per week) to improve/expand her business.

In 2008, Fuatino joined SPBD. This is her third loan with SPBD. SPBD's loans are Fuatino's only access to capital because she was never able to qualify for a loan with traditional banks.

About SPBD:
In 2000, Greg Casagrande founded SPBD and since then, it has expanded from the main island of Upolu in Samoa to Savaii, as well as Tonga. SPBD's philosophy of lending is based upon the Grameen Bank lending method.
