A loan helped to buy and sell more agricultural products and gain more profits.

Iness's story

Iness is a 25-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and child in the Mulanje district in Malawi. Iness runs a business selling farm produce like maize and legumes, however at a very small scale.

Iness is requesting a Kiva loan to buy and sell more agricultural products and gain more profits. She plans to use the profit she earns to pay her siblings’ school fees and buy food for her family.

Iness will repay the ‘social interest’ on her loan by volunteering 2.5 hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, facilitating classes from CAMFED’s ‘My Better World’ program with students at her local secondary school, helping to build children’s self-esteem, and motivating them to remain in school.

This loan is special because:

It helps borrowers withstand negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
