A loan of $2,025 helped a member purchase of beaded necklaces, belts, and incense.

Cheikh Makhtar Group's story

The solidarity group CHEIKH MAKHTAR came into being in December 2009. It is made up of 15 women who all come from the same neighborhood. They are bound together by ties of affection or they are related to each other. The group is a part of the "Banc Villageois" of DVF GUEOUL. Mrs. Aminata N., standing in the second row in the photo, is the group leader. She is 34, married, and the mother of six children. She is also responsible for two other children who were confided to her care by relatives. She sells beaded necklaces, belts, and incense. She stocks up on merchandise in Touba and in Dakar and sells her goods in her neighborhood at weekly markets. With her loan, she is going to expand her stock of beads, belts and incense. Her goal is to help support her family and be responsible for her own personal needs.
