A loan helped to buy silk thread, dye colors, and materials for weaving silk cloth.

Turain's story

Turain is a married local woman living with her husband, children, and her grandchildren in a rural community of Surin Province in the northeastern region of Thailand. Her family generally cultivates a jasmine rice farm and weaves silk cloth to make a living.

Weaving silk cloth has been a source of income for her family since the time of her ancestors. Turain was inspired by the beauty of these silk clothes and decided to follow the footsteps of her ancestors to carry on the family business. She wishes to expand her business in order to meet the demand for silk clothes in the market and to provide more income for her family. Then, she applied for a loan through Kiva to purchase silk thread, dye colors, and materials for weaving silk cloth.

The loan is extremely important and will assist her in maintaining the business and purchasing sufficient materials to weave the beautiful silk clothes. It will also help her as a local female entrepreneur. Furthermore, when her grandchildren reach a certain age, she intends to teach them how to weave silk in order to keep this occupation and culture in the family.
