A loan helped to buy yarn and materials to make handcrafted keychains for sale.

Yaeng's story

Yaeng is a married local woman who lives in a big family with her mother, brother, husband, children, and a grandchild in a Kui community in Surin Province in the northeastern region of Thailand. To make a living, her family cultivates a jasmine rice farm and makes handicraft keychains.

Yaeng sought a loan to invest in the handicraft keychain business because she desired to increase her family's income during her free time from activities in the paddy field. She learned about the business from her neighbor and has been making the keychains for more than five years. Now, she has applied for a Kiva loan to improve the business by purchasing yarn and materials to make the handcraft keychains to sell.

The loan will provide her with the opportunity to buy materials to produce the product and support the local entrepreneur. In the future, she is passionate to generate more income for her family and take care of them.

This loan is special because:

It helps women living in rural areas improve financial literacy and invest in their businesses.
