A loan of $375 helped seeds and manure for farming business.

Alida's story

Alidia, 22, lives with her husband, Percy, 26, and their three beautiful daughters. She is an attentive mother and her children are her reason for living. The family lives with Alidia's mother-in-law. For the past 3 years, she and her husband have grown potatoes, peas, maize and gladiolus on land given to them by the mother-in-law. Since the birth of her youngest child, Alidia hasn't been able to work as hard as before and, consequently, she limits herself to taking care of the animals--bulls, rams, horses and donkeys--that help them to move agricultural tools and supplies to the fields where they work. The parts of the business that Alidia likes best is drying the maize after a harvest and selling gladiolus in the city's flower market. Her husband wants to raise cattle so she wants to buy bulls. She also wants to continue with the farming business. Recently, she and her husband have talked about pulling together enough working capital to set up a restaurant at a mining settlement called Cerro de Pasco where they could make the most of the demand among the miners there. This is Alidia's third MFP loan. She says that she likes working with her community bank because the members of the group support one another. With this loan, Alidia will buy seeds and bags of manure for sowing a new crop.
