Teresita's story

Teresita Q. is from the village of Balzain west, Tuguegarao City. She is 49 years old. Teresita is married and has 2 school-aged children. To make a living, Teresita owns & operates a general store. The main source of income for the business comes from selling daily use products such as shampoo, soap & toothpaste in the local community. Teresita has been engaged in her business for over 5 years and earns approximately 2,000 PHP a month for these activities.

In 2010, Teresita joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Teresita is requesting a loan of 5000 PHP which will be used to invest in expanding the business. This will be the first loan taken out by Teresita from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand her business.

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 29 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly of farmers, fisherfolk and small entrepreneurs.
