A loan helped to purchase certain kilo's of kava, raw materials and food ingredients to stock up and increase her income.

Sophie Elizabeth's story

Sophie Elizabeth is a 47 year old mother of 2 grown up boys and 3 daughters who are of ages 23, 14 and 11. She is a struggling, single mother who loves her children and loves God. She lives with her children in her own home in her parents' compound. They live in an urban area which is located 1 kilometre out of Port Vila city. Sophie Elizabeth's community is small, and the main industry is food. It is often hard during this pandemic for one to make income.

Sophie Elizabeth has requested a loan to help her purchase certain kilo's of kava, raw materials and food ingredients so she can provide kava juice to quench one's thirst and delicious meals to satisfy her customers. She has her daughter helping her out with her business. With the earned revenue, she will use it to pay for her youngest child's education while she will save a little so she can afford to pay for a piece of land in the future. Being single, all of Sophie Elizabeth's four elder children could not be in school due to school fees except for her youngest. South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd has supported Sophie Elizabeth for the past 3 years, and this is her fourth loan. She has been devoted to her previous loan repayments. Through her loans, Sophie Elizabeth feels empowered to grow in her business so she can improve her family's living conditions.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
