A loan helped a single mother leave a legacy for her family.

Marlena's story

Hi, my story started as a dream of an 8-year-old little girl. My mom took me to the hair salon to get my hair done for my 8th birthday. And that’s the day I decided to become a licensed cosmetologist. I was so intrigued by what the ladies were doing. How they made every client smile. The freedom they had in their career. I left that day and went after my dream. I had a few setbacks but I kept going. I received my license in 2006. I haven’t looked back since, no matter the ups and downs. My business was moving in the perfect direction right before covid hit. But I kept going. I started making hair grease to stay afloat. I even made masks to keep my company making something. I’m showing my children and people around me that if you keep going after your dreams, you will achieve them. I remember my oldest daughter asking me what I wanted to be when I was a kid. And I was so proud to say I am what I wanted to be. Now I’m ready to leave my family generational wealth and a legacy.
