A loan of $725 helped to buy bales of used clothing..

Kadia's story

Mrs. Kadia D. is 37 years old, married, and the mother of 5 children. She lives with her husband and children in Mamassoni, a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city of Sikasso (Third Administrative Region of the Republic of Mali).

After trying a number of unsuccessful ventures, Mrs. D. started selling second hand clothing from Ghana about two years ago. She sells the clothing door to door in other neighborhoods in the city, where she is highly sought after by her clients because of the quality of her goods. She joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance partner over three years ago. After 2 group loans with a neighborhood women's association, she is now on her 4th individual loan, and all her previous loans have been repaid.

This fourth loan will allow her to go to Ghana herself to buy bales of used clothing of various types (T-shirts, shirts, key rings, dolls, etc.) so she and her children can re-sell them door to door to a clientele that is usually neighborhood women. With this loan, she hopes to earn income of 135,000 francs per month which she will use to increase her working capital, contribute to the family's expenses, and pay interest on the loan.
