Hellen's story

Greetings from Kitale!

Hellen is a farmer from the Kitale area in the Rift Valley of Kenya. She is 47 years old, married, and a mother to seven children; three children attend school. She has been farming for the last 20 years and employs one farmhand. Her mixed farm produces coffee, maize, milk and eggs which she sells locally. Her family mainly depends on the income from the farm to provide for their basic needs.

Hellen has requested a loan through Juhudi Kilimo of 20,000 KES to improve her farming. She says that she will use the loan to purchase more farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and pesticides. This will lead to an increase in her production, giving her more profits which will enable her pay school fees for her children without straining. She is happy that Juhudi exists because it cares for the low income earners like her and she believes with Juhudi loans she will improve her quality of life and that of her family too.

Kiva lenders kindly lend her!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
