A loan of $1,025 helped to buy second-hand clothing.

Seydou's story

A native of Koutiala, Mr. Seydou C. is 30 years old, married and the father of 3 children. He is polygamous and lives with his wives and children in the Darsalam II neighborhood of Koutiala (Sikasso Region). He did not attend school for social reasons. Thus, he took up his father's line of business at a young age and has operated it for himself for 10 years. He is much sought after by his customers because the less costly and better quality second-hand clothing is much appreciated in Mali. In order to satisfy customer demand, Mr. C. turned to the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution, where he has his first loan. He plans to buy 5 bales of second-hand clothing at Burkina Faso with this loan. He conducts his sales principally in cash at the large market in Koutiala under his shed roof to a clientele composed of women and men. With this loan, he expects to make a monthly profit of 100,000 CFA to support himself; namely, to repay the loan, to provide for his family and to invest the rest in his business. In the future, he plans to expand his buiness in order to attract more customers.
