The LAMP F. solidarity group has been created on December 4, 2007. It was founded the day of the inauguration of the Banc Villageois of Pal Khely to which it belongs. The group is composed of 13 women of the same lineage, which explains why almost all of them share the same last name, K.. Thus, they are neighbors and relatives who decided to form a group.

Khady K., standing on the far right in the second row in the photo, is the group’s leader. She is 48 years old. She is married and the mother of five children and has a grandchild in her care. She raises sheep. She has been in this line of business since joining Banc Villageois in 2007. With her loan she would like to purchase three sheep for fattening and reselling five month later at the local markets in her area. Her goal is to help her husband support the family. She takes care of her personal expenses while boosting her level of savings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
