Mahanaim Group's story

Mahanaim is a group of 14 people who, along with a great friendship, have something else in common: they all dedicate their lives to God. The group is located in the community of Valle de Chalco in the State of Mexico. The members are: Víctor Fidel R. C. (taxi service), Beatriz O. C. (piñata sales), Raquel C. Álvarez (perfume and cosmetic sales by catalog), Leticia García C. (facial treatment sales by catalog), Aquilina Z. Hernández (cosmetic sales by catalog), Juan José R. C. (t-shirt and pants sales), Olivia García C. (wood sales), Alejandra Sánchez O. (sweets and fried food sales), Zeferina Hernández Hernández (floral arrangement sales), Rosa María B. Juárez (piñata sales), María Magdalena Juárez L. (meat sales), Sara Z. Hernández (plant and flowerpot sales), Catalina Z. Hernández (clothing store), and Guadalupe María Guzmán C. (candy sales).

Rosa María is 33 years old, with a family made up of three school-age children. She has been making piñatas for four years, as this was something her family has been doing for a long time and she enjoyed the work. At the beginning it was difficult to bring in customers since she was just starting, so she decided to equip herself with a catalog of the different figures, which she could show to customers. This way, people could get to know her work. Through perseverance, she has succeeded in having her piñatas sold in commercial centers and candy shops. Her sales increase during the December holidays and drop a bit at the beginning of the year, but for her this is no reason to lose motivation and she keeps working. Her plans are to expand her business and to have more people know her work. She will use the requested loan to buy materials like different colors of tissue paper, glue, cardboard, etc., and to bring in a little more income to invest in her children's education.

Mahanaim is grateful for the the support offered by Kiva through Fundación Realidad, as it will help them to reach their goals.
