Mariana Santos's story

Mariana Santos E. S. is fifty years old and lives in the canton of Chillanes, in Bolívar province. She has three children: twins, a thirty-one year old, and a twenty-five year old daughter. Mariana is a member of the communal bank "Genesis," which is located two hours from Chillanes. There are eleven members in total, who for the most part, cultivate corn, rice, soy, plantains, papaya, and other crops for a living. Mariana is a farmer who cultivates soy, corn, and beans. She makes her purchases and sells her products in Mata de Cacao each week. She is taking out a loan for her farming and is going to invest it in planting more corn and beans. Her dream is to have a bigger business and to keep growing. She does house work like cooking, straightening up the house, and helping her family when she has free time.
