A loan helped a member to buy women's clothing.

Uhuru Group's story

Esther is a client of the micro-finance institution Hekima and the president of the business group called "Uhuru." She is married, 35 years old, and a mother of five children, who are all in school. Her partner is a farmer.

Esther sells various clothing. She started this business nine years ago with start-up funds she received from her husband. Later, she joined Hekima to support her business, which continues to evolve. With this new loan, she is going to buy women's clothing, which will increase her initial capital. A challenge in her business relates to the closed borders because of COVID-19.

Esther would like to see her children continue in school and to feed her family. Finally, she thanks Hekima and their partners for their support to business owners who lack access to banking services within the context of this global COVID-19 crisis. The photo includes only the group leader in order to respect social distancing measures in place for COVID-19.
