A loan of $375 helped buying fertilizer.

Felicia's story

Felicia is 57 years old. She has 6 children from her first marriage, who are all working independently in the city of Lima. Currently, she is sharing her life with Julio, age 49, with whom she has a 22-year-old son, Michael. They live in their own house which is made of wood. For more than two years, Felicia has worked selling food in her restaurant located in a space in her house. The restaurant is affectionately called "El Moreno" ["Brown-Skinned Man"]. She also prepares sweets and mazamorras [corn puddings] in the evenings, which she offers on the street. In addition, some days she helps her husband cultivate his crops of avocado, coffee and bananas, since both of them have worked in agriculture for 19 years. What Felicia loves most is cooking and selling what she prepares, since her earnings allow the family to live comfortably. For that reason, she now wants to construct a house of solid materials, expand her restaurant, add beverages to her offerings, and plant more coffee so that she can become a recognized and significant producer of this crop in her area. This is her seventh loan with MFP, and she is enthusiastic about continuing to work with her communal bank, because it is made up of good people who have a strong sense of solidarity and are very dependable, like she is. With the loan she is requesting, she will buy several sacks of fertilizer or compost which she will spread on her banana fields.
