A loan of $600 helped a member to help expand several small businesses.

Dagodog Group's story

Evelyn D. lives in the village of Patunan. She is 58 years old and leads a five-member loan group called D.. While each member of this group receives an individual loan, they are all responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.

Evelyn is married and has seven grown children. She makes a living by running a store where people buy items they use daily such as shampoo, soap and toothpaste. She has run her store for more than a decade and earns about 3,000 PHP a month.

Earlier this year, Evelyn joined PMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her life and ability to engage in business. She has successfully repaid a loan of 3,000 PHP from PMPC and is applying for a new one, for 6,000 PHP, to secure additional capital to run her business. She plans to use the additional income made possible by this loan to improve her family's living conditions.

About PMPC: Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) is one of the most progressive cooperatives in northwestern Mindanao. It reaches out to the rural poor using the Grameen model.
