Sra. Eleoteria is a very good cook. For a long time, she helped in the preparation of meals in a restaurant in her neighborhood in Los Olivos. From this was born the idea of preparing some meals to offer to her acquaintances.

She began with tamales, which she prepared each weekend and then sold. Later, she offered her services for cooking for events such as birthdays, christenings, anniversaries, etc. Little by little she has become well known so that a lot of people request her services, and she receives a lot of contracts.

What she wants most is to own and manage her own restaurant. She already has a place for it in her house, and only lacks capital in order to start. For the time being, she will continue saving in order to attain her goal. With her loan she will buy ingredients for preparing meals such as condiments, corn, and other things.

Her group is called “La Buena Amistad” (Good Friendship). She is the treasurer, a difficult job that she performs very well.

Sra. Eleoteria is in the third row in the black vest and red sweater. Twelve members appear in the photo because one of the group members has chosen to keep maintain her savings in the group's account during this loan cycle. She is not included on the list of group members because she is not taking out a new loan during this cycle.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
