A loan helped to purchase efficient pandanus and mulberry for her tapa making and weaving business.

Tapaita's story

Tapaita is a young mother with a big dream for her family. She is married, has three kids, and they live at her parent's house. Currently she operates two businesses, which is weaving and tapa making. Her mother is her main helper. She helps Tapaita with weaving and also with preparing her soft tapas.

Tapaita joined a group of women in her village and every Saturdays they make tapas. Together they make different types and size of tapas, then design and sell them to earn money for their families. Tapaita only export her tapas to her older sisters overseas, where she receives better marketing. For her weaving, she weaves with her mother at home, and they weave mats and taovala only, using white pandanus.

Tapaita dreams of moving with her family to the main land Tongatapu for more opportunities for her children and better education. Having lived on an island has many challenges, and she does not want her children to go through that challenge. The only way to implement her dream is to run her business and make enough income so she can start their life in the new place. With this loan, Tapaita will purchase efficient pandanus and mulberry for her businesses.
