Fuerza Divina 1 & 7 Group's story

Maribel is the coordinator of her group, Fuerza Divina 1 & 7 (Divine Force). She makes her home in a simple structure with her longterm partner and a son. She says that her most difficult challenge is to have a better life. In the meantime she plans to continue to enjoy being with her little son.

Maribel is excited to be taking her 5th loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She has had her business for two-and-a-half years. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business by buying household products. She will use the profits to buy school supplies and she is dreaming of building her house.

This associate began with Esperanza because she wanted to have a better life with more opportunities. Her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients generally (many of whom recently emigrated to the Dominican Republic from Haiti).

The rural area surrounding Hato Mayor is an area where the economy is dominated by agriculture. This area, like nearly all impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic, suffers from unreliable electricity and running water (none of which is potable).

In this group: Maribel, Liliana, Jose, Rosa, Santa, Santa, Martina, Clara, Eulalia, Estela
