Harriet's story

Harriet is married to an electricia. They have two children and also take care of her younger sister. Harriet sells soft dinks to earn a living and works in a semi-urban city of Kawempe. She buys passion fruits and oranges from Owino market and uses public transport to and from shopping. Harriet goes shopping once a week. She will use this loan to buy more bags of passion fruits, sugar and oranges. Harriet has been in this business for eleven years. Besides this soft drink business she also owns a video library and sells from her home. She works seven days a week and her main challenge is that during rainy season she does not sell as much because the demand is low.

Harriet wants to make more profits from her business to be able to look after her family. She joined MCDT because they provide her with timely loans. She resides in and rents a two roomed house and the family has access to electricity but no piped water. Her monthly expenses include food, school fees and food .
