Maria Lida's story

Maria Lida A. Y. is 50 years old. She is married, and lives with her husband and children in the Ventanas province of Los Ríos. She has 4 children: Jesenia (26), Patricia (20), Carlos (25) and Jeny (13).

Maria is a member of the “Y” rural bank, located 1½ hours from Ventanas. There are 17 members in total, who primarily work in agriculture. This is the first loan they are taking through Cooperativa San José.

Maria dedicates herself to farming, specifically the planting of coffee and corn. She makes her harvest purchases in Guayaquil and Babahoyo, and also sells her products there and in neighboring communities.

She is requesting this loan to buy seeds, so she can increase her production. She believes this credit is an opportunity to get ahead. Her dream is to have her own stable business, in order to improve her standard of living. The challenges she faces are lack of funds and diseases of her crops. She very much enjoys working.
