A loan of $475 helps a single mom to buy certified seeds and fertilizers.

Judith's story

Meet Judith (23 and a single mom), a strong-minded woman who lives on her farm in a humble village near Litein in Kenya.

Judith is a crop farmer and she also rears dairy cows. She has achieved meaningful accomplishments in life through farming.

Access to modern, quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocations by the government are far below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability.

The biggest challenge for farmers, especially in her area, is the high cost of farming inputs.

Judith is seeking this loan to buy inputs such as hybrid seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers to improve her farm yields. The returns from the investment will change her life and that of her entire household. Through your loan, 2021 will mark a great turning point for her.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
