Discipline Plus Group's story

“Discipline Plus” is a group of 28 owners of small businesses chaired by Lucien K.. Its members are jointly liable for loans granted by Kiva through MFI HOPE DRC.

Lucien started a cigarette-selling business in 1997 with a capital investment of $25. After he went bankrupt because of theft, he decided to open a general boutique, which he continues to operates today. With hard work and determination, his business has prospered.

Lucian is happy to be part of one of Hope’s groups. He joined the group in November 2009 and his business has been reinforced through the loan he received. Lucien intends to use this loan to purchase cans and other miscellaneous items to increase the inventory of his boutique in order to increase his profit.

Lucien is 36 years old and has two children, ages 4 and 10. Currently, Lucien makes a profit of about $100 per week. His dream is to open a sea transport enterprise someday. His general boutique is located in the western area of Kinshasa.
