A loan helped a black woman-owned brand overcome the financial hurdles imposed by COVID-19.

Erica's story

My name is Erica and I am the owner and designer of Signed e., a black woman-owned luxury clothing brand based in NYC. Throughout my childhood and adolescence, my aunt would take me with her to purchase fabrics that she would later create dresses, tops, and skirts out of. This left an invaluable mark on me. My desire to create women's clothing, the skills my aunt taught me, and the education I received in college all culminated to the creation of Signed e. I chose to create a brand that not only delivers attainable luxury quality garments for women's but also helps to decrease fashions carbon footprint and gave back to the community. After I am done cutting and sewing, I recycle all of the fashion waste. I also donate clothing to NYC shelters, churches, and non-profit organizations. As Signed e. grows, my hope is to create full-time job opportunities for my community, provide college credit internships and begin a pop-up shop tour of the major cities within the US.
