A loan helped to maintain 3 manzanas of productive coffee.

Carol's story

Carol is 28 years old. She is married and is the mother of a son. She and her husband work in various agricultural activities, among which planting and raising coffee is noteworthy. For Carol, this work is very profitable, since in a short time she has increased her coffee planting area from 2 manzanas [about 3.5 acres], which she had previously, to 3 manzanas [about 5.2 acres] now.

For that, Carol is applying for a loan through Aldea Global with Kiva funds to give more specialized maintenance to her planting, with the goal of obtaining better results in the harvest. The loan will be used for work to control weeds, apply compost, apply agricultural chemicals such as potassium, and other foliar supplies required in the cultivation.

Translated from Spanish by Kiva volunteer Pam McMurry.

This loan is special because:

It empowers farmers to diversify, and thus stabilize, their families' sources of income.
