Joyce's story

Wonderful Kiva community of Kiva!

Joyce is 25 years old and lives in Makutano, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands that favor large-scale grain farming, dairy, and corn farming. She is a hard-working woman who always wants to give her family a better life. Joyce obtains her income through mixed dairy and corn crop farming.

Unfortunately, the quality of Joyce’s crops has declined because of poor farm inputs. This has resulted in low demand for her products and has negatively impacted her sales. To a poor rural farmer, treatment of crop diseases requires an increase in the total operational costs to the extent that, in most cases, the amount of capital invested to produce a desired yield surpasses the output harvested. The remedy is to use certified seeds that are resistant to pests and diseases.

Joyce is requesting this loan to purchase farm inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizer and certified seed. This will enable her to improve her farm yield and increase her sales and profits so that she can better support her family. This loan will surely change her life, as she will be able to produce more and, hence, shift her income level.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
