She is requesting this loan to plant corn: to buy seeds and fertilizer. She thinks that this loan will help her to make gains and to have greater profitability. Her dreams are to have a house, to buy a car, and to have a better life for all of the children she is going to have (she wants to have 6). She faces challenges like pests in her rice crop and health problems in her family.

Mercy es una socia de la ventanilla rural Recinto San Ramón, que esta ubicada en Nuevo San Ramón, a 12 Km. de Ventanas. Son 20 socios en total, que están trabajando en la agricultura de corto ciclo (cosecha de 6 meses). Esto es el primer crédito que ellos sacan con la Cooperativa.

Mercy esta estudiante para ser secretaria administrativa, y al mismo tiempo, ayudando a su esposo en la agricultura (maíz y arroz). Hacen las ventas de sus productos en los comerciales López y G. de Ventanas cada 6 meses.

Solicita el préstamo para sembrar maíz: comprar semillas y abonos. Piensa que este crédito le ayudara a tener ganancia y más rentabilidad. Sus sueños son tener una casa, comprar un carro y tener una mejor vida para todos los hijos que va a tener (quisiera tener 6). Enfrenta desafíos en los cultivos de arroz con plaga y problemas de salud en la familia.

About Cooperativa San Jose

This loan is administered by Cooperativa San Jose, a 45,000-member credit union located high in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador’s poorest province, Bolivar. They offer a unique loan called “Ventanillas Rurales” [Window to the Countryside], which uses a group guarantee but is an individual loan with a savings component, mostly to rural borrowers.
