Chen P. is 34 years old and lives with her husband and five young children in Takeo province. Since 2008, she and her husband have been raising chickens and ducks for eggs to earn a living and are able to make about US$4 of profit each day. Before raising chickens and ducks, the couple grew rice and vegetables to raise their standard of living, but this work allowed them to earn very little money.

Five of their children are in school, and they need more money to support their studies. Chen P. gives her children 1,000 to 1,500 Riel (approximately USD 0.24 to USD 0.36) a day. Now, Chen P. would like to take out a loan of US$1,200 to raise more ducks and chickens.
