Maria Elena's story

Mrs. María Elena L. is a member of the Zhidmad communal bank which is located in the south of the Gualaceo territory. The people are farmers and raise cattle. What they produce is for their own consumption. The women make straw hats, woolen sweaters and embroider skirts and blouses.

Our member is works around the house and raises animals, especially cattle. She uses the milk to make fresh cheeses that she sells in the city of Cuenca. She also works in farming and cultivates the land.

Our member is 33 years old, married with 4 children ages 11, 8, 5 and 3. Her first three children study at the local school. Her husband is a bricklayer. Thanks to their joint efforts, they have been able to build their own house.

She is a founding member and the loans have been put towards her household expenses and buying animals. This new loan will be used to buy cattle. Her dream is to improve and grow her business.
