A loan helped a member to buy cost efficient maize seeds and fertilizer for the coming harvest season.

Florence's Group's story

Pictured above is Florence, who, as a group leader, is representing her group of 14 farmers in Lugari District, Kenya. She is a mother of six children and is known in her community as a very friendly person.

Initially, Florence joined One Acre Fund in 2012 because she wanted to have access to the best seed prices. Since she joined the program she says that her life has improved, especially because she has been able to consistently feed her family. With the profits from the coming harvest season, Florence plans to send her children to school.

Between the 14 farmers in Florence's Group, a total of nine acres of land will be planted using the maize seeds and fertilizer received with the loan. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light so, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of five solar lights.

In this group: Florence, Alvin, Salome, Loice, Christine, David, Abel, Jacton, Wilberforce, Lydia, Norah, Rosalia, Rose, Beatrice

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
