A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Mary's Group's story

Mary, pictured above, has been a farmer for more than 20 years, and she is now proud to represent her group of five farmers in Lugari District. She is 53 years old and married and has three children.

Mary likes to think of herself as a very experienced farmer. She has been working alongside One Acre Fund since 2017 and decided to represent her group because she wanted to help more farmers. She says that being part of the One Acre Fund community has meant that she has been able to consistently feed her family. Mary plans to use the profits from this coming season to send her children to school.

In total, Mary’s Group will receive inputs to cultivate 5.75 acres of land. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light with this loan, the group will also receive a total of two solar lights.

In this group: Mary, Emily, Phylis, Meble, Jane

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
