A loan of $1,300 helped a member buy rice, palm-oil, salt and sugar for resale.

Tamemsusor Group's story

In the photo are members of the “Tamemsusor” group. They are small-scale businesspeople based in a small village called Masorie, about 32 miles from Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. This is not the first loan that these entrepreneurs are accessing from SMT/Kiva. With this loan, they will be able to further expand their businesses, make more profit, and consequently improve on their standard of living.

The leader of this group is Kadiatu S. (second from left). Kadiatu is approximately age 42 and was born in Masorie. Her husband is a farmer and they have six children - two attending primary school, two in secondary, one in college and one no longer attending school.

For many years now, Kadiatu has been selling food items such as rice, palm-oil, salt and sugar. With the help of this loan, Kadiatu will be able to expand her business size and quality by buying the above mentioned items at wholesale, to add to her current supplies.
