A loan of $900 helped to purchase polar fleece for making winter clothing.

Maria's story

Maria, 43, lives in her own home with her husband and three children. For more than 20 years she has earned an income making alterations and repairs to jackets on her sewing machine, which is her only work tool. Over time she has come to specialize in sewing up rips and tears in clothes that are somewhat worn for which her customers recognize and appreciate the good work she does. Now she is experimenting in the world of dressmaking. She still has a lot to learn, but she feels satisfied at the productivity of her business. However on days when she does not have material with which to work she and her husband dedicate themselves to recycling activities and so are able to bring in additional income for the needs of their children. Her greatest wishes are to expand her market and to update her sewing machine with a multifunctional one. This is her fifteenth loan with MFP and she commits to making all her payments, as she has done, given that this support will be very helpful to her in increasing her working capital. With this loan she will buy polar fleece fabric. Because of the winter season which must be endured demand for clothing made from this material has gone up. She hopes to construct enough of this type of clothing to increase her earnings.
