A loan helped to buy a cow.

Melany's story

Melany is a 21-year-old charismatic and enterprising young woman. She lives with her parents in a humble house in the El Ejido community. She went to secondary school but didn’t have the chance to continue her studies in the university.

She works raising calves. This is the way she hopes to gain her independence. Thanks to her first loan she managed to buy two calves to raise last year. This year she hopes to expand through the purchase of a new cow, which will let her get milk to sell and improve her income.

Melany is asking for a new loan in order to keep working with cattle.

Translated from Spanish by Kiva volunteer Patricia Patton.

This loan is special because:

It aims to reach vulnerable refugee populations in an isolated region.
