A loan of $5,525 helps a member to buy a cylinder of gas, building materials, firewood and corn.

Super Juaquinas Group's story

Evelyn is a 36 year old married mother of two children, aged 7 and 12. She has a bilingual secretarial diploma. She worked in this position for 8 years and then decided that her children were her highest priority and opened her own businesses. Four years ago, she opened a small tortilla shop and a convenience store. Some of her income supports the continuing education of her children who are in the 1st and 6th grades.

She is requesting her third Kiva loan to buy a cylinder of gas, building materials (sand, cement, bricks) to construct a wood stove, and corn for the tortillas.

Evelyn is also the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, Super Juaquinas, located in a coastal area in the department/state of Suchitepequez. There are 8 other ladies in the group who all speak Spanish. They have convenience stores, prepared food businesses, bakeries and deliver tortillas to homes. The women look forward to their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational trainings (business, health, family, women), part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge.

Evelyn shares that she really appreciates being able to make convenient monthly payments and the emphasis on solidarity within the group. Every other month, the ladies have access to basic health care services.

It would be impossible for Evelyn and the women in the group to access credit in a bank. They send their appreciation to Kiva lenders for funding their much needed loans. Thank you!

In this group: Lilian Jehanet, Zonia Marili, Patricia Elizabeth, Yessenia Liseth, Elvia Maria, Julia Azucena , Evelyn Karina , Marta Adela , Karla Lizeth
