A loan helped a member to gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Esther's Group's story

Esther, featured in the above picture, is representing her farming group formed by 11 farmers in Mumias District, Kenya. She is 50 years old and a married mother of 3 children, often described as a very hardworking individual.

Although Esther has been a farmer for 1 year, she is new to One Acre Fund and decided to join this year because she really wanted to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds. Even though she is new to the program, Esther wanted to represent her group because she wanted to help more farmers. With the profits earned from this season’s harvest, Esther hopes to be able to send her children to school.

With this loan, the group will receive farming inputs to plant a total of 4.75 acres of land.

In this group: Esther, Mwanaisha, Lina, Patrick, Bendeta, Jane, Mohamed, Risper, Fatuma, Fredrick, Dennis

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
