A loan helped a member to buy cost efficient maize seeds and fertilizer for the coming harvesting season.

Lawrence's Group's story

Pictured above is Lawrence, who, as a group leader, is representing his group formed by 19 farmers in Teso District, Kenya. He is a father to 7 children and is known by his community as a very resourceful person.

Initially, Lawrence joined One Acre Fund in 2014 because he wanted to have access to the best seed prices. Since he joined the program he says that his life has improved, especially because he has gained a lot of respect in his community. With the profits from the coming harvesting season, Lawrence plans to buy more land to cultivate in.

Between the 19 farmers in Lawrence's Group, a total of 13.75 acres of land will be planted using the maize seeds and fertilizer received with the loan. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light so, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 6 solar lights.
