A loan of $675 helped to buy fabric.

Sonia Alexandra's story

Señora Sonia Águila is a member of a communal bank called Estrellitas ("Little Stars"). She lives in the parish of Ricaurte. The parish is known for its church but even better known for its culinary expertise, with a great number of local specialties such as oven-roasted pork and barbecued guinea-pig.

Sonia is a seamstress. She studied her trade in a vocational college and has had her own workshop for the past 6 years now. She works from home, sewing women's and children's clothes. Working from home means she doesn't have fixed hours. Sonia is 33 years old, and married with 2 children aged 13 and 3. Her elder son is in high school and her husband is a carpenter. They don't have their own house, but are renting.

This is her second loan and it was thanks to her sister-in-law that Sonia became part of this lovely group of determined women. The new loan will be invested in fabric for her business. Her goal is to learn and become more skilled at her trade.
