A loan of $1,000 helped to buy a bushel of soy beans, coffee, sugar, fruit and milk.

Rocio Alexandra's story

Sra. Roció L. is a member of the communal bank “Estrellitas”. She lives in the city of Cuenca which is considered the third most important city in Ecuador and known for its views, culture, the churches in the historical center, and the people. Those that visit are known to fall in love with the city.

Our member is 23 years old, married with two children who are six and three years old. The oldest is in school. Her husband is a merchant delivering breakfast. They do not have their own home but they are leasing one.

Sra. Roció is a native of Santo Domingo, but has lived in the city of Cuenca for seven years. She makes soy milk, “coladas” (thickened juice drink), and “empanadas verdes” (empanadas made of plantains) everyday so her husband can sell these products.

This is her third loan cycle which she will use to purchase a bushel of soy beans, sugar, coffee, and more food needed.

Her dream is to study dressmaking.
