A loan helped a mission-driven business continue to improve food insecurity in its community.

Tanner's story

Hi, I am Tanner, co-founder of Simple + Sweet Creamery, an all-natural, locally sourced ice cream company based in Northwest Arkansas (NWA). I have always had a passion for investing in my NWA community through entrepreneurship. I now work for a local technology company here. My company co-founder, Coleman, is a student at the University of Arkansas majoring in Industrial Engineering and Political Science. In 2021, Coleman was elected as the Student Body President at the University of Arkansas (28,000 students) with a slate of three women officers, and thus the first-ever Black student Vice-President and Indian-American student Treasurer in the U of A’s 150-year history were elected. Coleman and Bailee, our Creative Director, also have served a summer as AmeriCorps VISTAs in Nebraska because they share my passion for service. They helped feed over 600 children per day there and gained a new perspective on recurring hunger in our country. Coleman had the idea for Simple + Sweet Creamery- an ice cream shop that donates a large portion of its profits to fight hunger in the NWA area. Bailee and I were excited to assist Coleman and develop a for-profit company whose primary focus is to fight hunger and bring a unique ice cream recipe to our region. Since 2020 we have donated over 12,500 meals through our local NWA Food Bank donations derived from the profits we made from online sales of our ice cream. We now want to expand operations with a food trailer to allow us to donate more due to increased sales.

This loan is special because:

It helps an experienced entrepreneur serve their community.
