This group is called DULCE MARIA (Sweet Maria), because they like the name and because they want life to become sweeter. It’s located in the state of Mexico, in Mexico. The group has 10 members.

Magdalena M. García is the president of the group. She is 40 years old, studied until second grade in elementary school, is a merchant and has 4 children in total, 1 girl and 3 boys. She sells clothes and embroidered tablecloths and aprons. She started selling the clothes a year ago and the embroidery 13 years ago. She is soliciting the loan to stock up on clothes and thread for her embroidery. Her customers say good things about her, since she lets them pay for the clothes in instalments and the embroidery she does is very creative and beautiful. She feels very happy and excited requesting the loan, since she will be able to grow her business and increase her sales. She wants this loan so that she can become known in other communities; she needs a large amount of stock in order to sell outside of her community. She also hopes to keep her children in school, since they are the ones that motivate her to get ahead.

This photo was taken in the house of Maria Luz. Magdalena’s table clothes are visible, as well as the aprons and clothes that she sells, of which there is an amply supply in the photo.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
